It is important to back up your Tax Assistant data files regularly. If you have set up a Tax Assistant data folder that is separate from your Tax Assistant program folder you can simply back up the whole of the data folder. For this reason, we strongly recommend setting up a separate data folder using the 'Data Folder' function available on the 'Tax Assistant Desktop'.
If you use your Tax Assistant program folder also as your data folder (normally "C:\Taxass" or "C:\Program Files\Tax Assistant") you can also back up the whole folder and all its sub-folders. If you have a bulk backup system such as a tape backup unit, ZIP disk drive or CD-writer, backing up the entire folder and all its sub-folders is a simple process. If, however, you use floppy disks for backup you can reduce the number of disks required by backing up only your data files, because the program files can be recovered from the distributed CD or downloaded from the web. To help you determine which files to back up, the following is a list of the Tax Assistant data files. This list will also be useful if you decide to move the Tax Assistant software on to a new computer. If you are not using all the facilities available in Tax Assistant, you may find that some of the files listed are not present on your system. The ? character means "any character".
